She remembered a side door led directly to the underground parking, a route that would allow her to leave without drawing Gary’s suspicion.
As she made her way out, a sharp cry stopped her. “Who is it?”
It seemed she had been spotted.
Chelsey’s heart raced as she scrambled for a hiding spot. Just then, a large hand clamped over her mouth from behind.
Startled, she was about to resist when a familiar voice whispered, “It’s me! Don’t be afraid!”
Jason?
Chelsey looked up, and he removed his hand.
Jason quickly ushered her into a car, staying out of sight of a nearby security guard.
Jason didn’t start the car and pull away until the security guard had left.
“Why are you back? What happened with Gary?”
Jason replied, “Everything is fine. He didn’t get suspicious. I tried calling you, but you didn’t respond. I was worried, so I came. How did things go on your end?”
“There was a minor problem, but it’s handled now.”
Jason laughed, drawing Chelsey’s attention. She turned to him curiously.
“What’s so funny?”
“Nothing. I’m just impressed by how bold you’re becoming, daring to venture into such risky places alone now.”
Chelsey glanced at the USB drive inserted into her laptop and replied almost without thinking, “I need to learn to stand on my own without any help.”
Jason felt sad when he heard this but was at a loss for words.
Unaware of Jason’s reaction, Chelsey concentrated on the USB’s contents.
Most files were related to their projects, and everything seemed in order.
However, one folder was encrypted, and it resisted all her attempts to open it.
This indicated to Chelsey that Gary was more cautious than she had anticipated.
After some thought, she contacted Karl to see if he could crack the encrypted folder.
After bidding Jason farewell, Chelsey reviewed every folder on the USB drive to prepare for her conversation with Karl.
Karl informed her that the encryption was complex and that breaking it would take some time. Chelsey would need to be patient.
