With a sharp click, Bain released his hold, the sound echoing briefly in the quiet room.

Cold sweat began to form on Dulcie’s brow, glistening under the dim Light, and a thin Line of blood appeared on her lower Lip from where she had bitten down too hard.

Kyson’s eyes darkened as he took in her state. His gaze flicked to Bain, icy and full of warning. “You better make sure she recovers.”

Bain, visibly shaken by the threat, could feel a cold sweat creeping down his own back. His hands trembled slightly as he hurriedly said, “Mr. Shaw, you can ask this lady if she feels less pain now.”

Dulcie cautiously moved her ankle. She rolled it gingerly, and to her relief, the sharp, stabbing pain had significantly subsided.

When she glanced up and met Kyson’s intense eyes, she nodded.

Bain exhaled a deep sigh of relief, his nerves easing slightly as he explained, “Her ankle bone was slightly dislocated. That’s what caused the swelling. Generally, people who aren’t familiar with human anatomy wouldn’t dare attempt to fix something like this. She’ll need plenty of bed rest to heal properly.”

“Okay,” Kyson replied tersely.

His focus then shifted back to Dulcie as he asked, “Are there any other injuries?”

Dulcie hesitated for a moment. She couldn’t very well remove her clothing to let the doctor examine her spine, could she?

However, the man had shown competence so far, and the improvement in her foot gave her a small glimmer of trust in his abilities.

After a moment’s hesitation, she pointed to her back and said, “I fell on the ice earlier. The X-ray showed the bones in my spine were slightly fractured.”

Her words were calm, but Bain’s eyes widened as he processed what she had said. He couldn’t hide his surprise as he swallowed nervously.

A spinal fracture was no small injury, and the pain that came with it was something most people could barely withstand. How could she be so indifferent?

“Well, Mr. Shaw.” Bain spoke, his tone grave. “If the bones in her spine are fractured, there’s a significant risk of pressure on the spinal cord. I strongly advise you to let her stay in the hospital for observation, where she can receive prompt treatment if any complications arise.”

Kyson’s expression darkened even more at Bain’s words, a storm brewing behind his eyes.

She had been too reckless. She was badly hurt but hadn’t said anything.

The realization that there could be pressure on her spinal cord struck him Like a cold wave. If there were complications, the risk of paralysis loomed ominously.

“We’re going to the hospital,” Kyson declared without hesitation and moved to lift Dulcie from the bed.

But Bain’s voice interrupted the moment, tinged with urgency. “If you carry her like that, you might injure her further. You really should call for an ambulance.”

Kyson’s jaw tightened as he recognized the truth in Bain’s words.

With a grim expression, he turned sharply to exit the room and make the call.

While they waited for the ambulance to arrive, Bain provided some simple care for Dulcie. He noticed a small cluster of medicine boxes on the bedside table, each one bearing labels that made him frown deeply.

“Where did you get this medicine? How can you use such strong medication? If you take this, you risk developing shallow gastritis.”
