Miranda paused, and a faint smile touched her lips. “It’s not necessary. I’ve offended many people. The more people know about it, the more dangerous it becomes. As a daughter, I haven’t been filial to my father, but at least I can choose not to involve him in my mess.”

A trace of sadness appeared in her eyes as she spoke.

Seeing this, Lilah sighed. “Is that why you were so reluctant to tell me the truth before? But have you ever considered that, compared to those unknown risks, what’s truly difficult for our father is the constant longing for you?”

Miranda’s expression tightened slightly, and she looked at Lilah in surprise.

She had been wandering since childhood and had received little warmth. Meeting her elder sister and setting aside her worries to reunite with her was already a significant effort on her part.

Yet now, her sister wanted her to meet their father, whom she had never seen before. She was indeed hesitant.

“Think it over. Dad misses you dearly every day,” Lilah said gently. Lilah didn’t say anything more but hoped that Miranda would come to her own realization.

At that moment, the door was abruptly pushed open. An unexpected guest came. “Lilah, is this Dr. Hanson?”

To everyone’s astonishment, it was Danna standing at the door. In a rare display of vulnerability, she did not show her usual fierce demeanor but looked at Lilah with pleading eyes.

Lilah felt a pang of resignation. Glancing outside, she saw that the two bodyguards had their heads bowed and did not dare to intervene. It was clear that Danna had forced her way in, and there was nothing the guards could do to stop her.

“What can I do for you, Mrs. Morris?” Lilah stood up and asked indifferently.

She had already guessed the likely reason for Danna’s visit.

“Lilah, I know it was entirely my fault. I apologize for everything. Could you please persuade your father to keep Karol? If you speak to him, I’m sure he will reconsider his decision to expel her from the house.”

It was evident that Danna was at her wit’s end, having exhausted all other options, and had come to plead for help.

Lilah glanced subconsciously at Miranda.

Miranda remained indifferent, as though it were none of her concern.

“But it’s not up to us,” Lilah said.

She was reluctant to involve herself in the matter, especially given how offensive Karol had been.

“Lilah, please don’t be like this. I beg you, your father listens to you the most. Please help us.” Danna’s face was filled with sorrow as she seemed on the verge of kneeling.

Lilah was at a loss for words.

“Mrs. Morris, please go back. We won’t do anything that would hurt ourselves,” Miranda said and stood up, her disdain evident as she looked at the old woman before her.

Danna’s expression turned to one of disbelief.

“Mrs. Morris, don’t rely on your seniority to get what you want. The world isn’t ruled solely by you and your granddaughter. It’s absurd. Karol has repeatedly tried to harm us. She has merely been expelled from the family, not maimed or killed. Why should we even consider pleading for her?”

Miranda’s eyes were filled with mockery, her expression particularly cold.
