Danna’s face went pale. She took two steps back, unable to speak for a long moment.
Finally, she pointed at Miranda and, through gritted teeth, spat out, “You’re just like your mother-—both of you are nothing but bitches.”
“Huht” Miranda sneered, crossing her arms over her chest. “I merely scolded you a little, and you’ve already revealed your true colors. You’re quick to call others bad, but are you any better? And what about the ‘good’ granddaughter you raised? Is she any better?”
Danna’s face grew even paler, and she almost collapsed. “Please go back, Mrs. Morris,” Lilah said firmly.
“Lilah, please don’t do this to us..” At that moment, another figure rushed in-it was Karol.
She fell to her knees, clutching the trouser legs of Lilah and begging for mercy.
“I truly know I was wrong, and I promise to correct my behavior. I’ll stay far away from you, I swear. I’ll never come near you again.”
Her voice was shrill and piercing, and to anyone who didn’t know the full story, it might have seemed as if Lilah were the bully.
Lilah found the scene ridiculous. She couldn’t understand why such absurd individuals existed.
“You can leave now. If you don’t, I will personally take you to see my father,” Lilah said coldly.
She firmly believed that being kind to such enemies was nothing but cruelty to oneself, especially when dealing with someone as vicious as Karol.
Karol shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “No, no…”
“You heard that, didn’t you? Lilah refuses to forgive you.” At that moment, a serious and angry voice emerged from outside.
It was Absolon.
Lilah instinctively signaled Miranda to go into the inner room, aware that Miranda had no desire to face Absolon.
She also realized that Absolon had come with Danna and Karol.
“Dad, please don’t do this. I’ve spent so many years with the Morris family; you’ve raised me. I haven’t had the chance to repay your kindness. How can I leave now?” Karol crawled over and clung to Absolon’s leg, desperately unwilling to let go.
“At this point, you’re still stubborn,” Absolon remarked, his voice heavy with sadness as he surveyed the room. Yet, he did not see the person he had hoped to find.
A flicker of disappointment crossed his face; he hadn’t anticipated that his other biological daughter would refuse to reunite with him.
“Dad, I know it’s my fault. Please, just let me off. Or, as long as you don’t throw me out, I’ll do anything you want.” Karol wiped her tears, but they continued to flow unabated.
Absoton turned to Lilah, seeking her judgment.
“Since she doesn’t want to sever ties with the Morris family, she should face the legal consequences,” Lilah said in a low voice.
With wide, disbelieving eyes, Karol stared at Lilah, resentment flashing in her gaze.
“Did you hear that?” Disappointment was etched clearly on Absolon’s face. “Cut ties with the family, or go to jail.”
