The delivery man paused, taken aback by such an unusual request. Yet, he agreed with a nod after a short pause, “Understood.”
The delivery man walked away with the delivery slip. “What a strange request,” he muttered. “Wouldn’t it make more sense to ask Mr. Shaw directly to stop sending flowers?”
Giselle overheard the delivery man’s remarks. She turned, picked up her phone, and started typing a message.
“Thank you for the flowers. Please, don’t give me anymore in the future. Pollen allergies make them a problem for me.”
From’ their last encounter, Griffin had shown his stubborn side. Direct requests to stop sending her flowers might fall on deaf ears. Giselle looked at these fresh flowers and sighed. If only they weren’t sent by Griffin.
Griffin sat in his office, staring at the screen. “You figure out it was me this quickly? You’re quite astute.”
Griffin’s gaze remained glued on the screen, his eyes deep and thoughtful. Giselle’s quick identification surprised him. He had to acknowledge that she was more than capable of running the Murphy Group.
A smile flickered across Griffin’s lips, but his eyes remained somber. “If only Giselle were not a competitor. I really appreciate her,” he muttered to himself.
Giselle typed back, “Mr. Shaw, using such tactics is in poor taste.”
Giselle’s emotions swirled with complexity, and _ her expression momentarily darkened. Griffin had tried to win her over with tactics he deemed sophisticated but were in reality quite basic and crude. His involvement in a perilous situation at a restaurant and his subsequent rescue attempt only served to diminish her tolerance for his antics further.
Giselle sent Griffin another message, reading, “Mr. Shaw, if you wish to communicate, I’d prefer it if you don’t beat around the bush. There’s no need for these roundabout schemes.”
Griffin replied, “Giselle, aren’t we friends? ‘‘Schemes’ seems a cold term to describe what friends do.”
Giselle began to ponder, puzzled over Griffin’s notion of friendship that involved sending teasing floral gifts.
A sense of unease took hold of Giselle. She contemplated whether Lucian had encountered similar harassment from Matias.
Without hesitation, Giselle set her phone aside, grabbed the computer next to her, and began operating vigorously.
A sense of impending doom loomed over her, as if a concealed snare was set just for her.
The computer screen soon displayed detailed information about Griffin and his connections with the Shaw family.
Matias was listed as the current CEO of the Shaw Group, with Marc noted as the patriarch.
The Shaw family tree indicated Griffin as a collateral relative. The diagram detailed the relationships among the family members comprehensively. Yet, the circumstances surrounding Griffin’s separation from the Shaw lineage remained obscured, suggesting that someone might have intentionally expunged any relevant information to thwart future investigations.
Nellie scrutinized the family chart, her confusion deepening. “Why would Griffin engage in such elaborate maneuvers? He surely wouldn’t need to do something like this just for a partnership, right?”
“Do you remember Lucian’s actions against Matias?” Giselle’s tone was serious, her eyes reflecting a mix of thoughts. “Griffin, being Matias’ distant cousin, likely’ has unresolved issues. It appears they’re using me as a pawn, considering Lucian too formidable a direct target.”
Linda gasped, her surprise evident. “Has Griffin lost his mind? Your marriage to Lucian has ended. Why are they dragging you into their quarrels?”
Giselle pressed her lips together and reached for her phone once again. “The full picture isn’t clear to me yet. Let’s wait for his next move.”
Her phone chimed with an incoming message.
Griffin’s messages read, “If my previous attempt displeased you, Giselle, I’m willing to try a different method. Do you have some time to spare? Would you be available for dinner today? I would like to discuss a few matters with you.”
Giselle stared at her screen, deliberating momentarily before responding affirmatively.
Determined to uncover Griffin’s intentions, she shut off her phone screen and informed Nellie of her decision, “I’ve agreed to meet Griffin. I’ll return early this evening.”
Nellie protested immediately, “Miss Murphy, you mustn’t go alone. I’ll come with you. Despite your recovery, it’s best to exercise caution. Griffin is cunning and dangerous.”
“I’LL manage. Bringing you might make Griffin cautious, whereas I’m keen to uncover the reasons behind his elaborate scheme,” Giselle responded, her eyes sharpening at the end.
As Giselle looked out the window, she found that the sky was bright and clear. But over to the south, dark clouds appeared ominously.
Whispering with a touch of solemnity, she mused, “Something big is about to happen. I can feel it.”
Lucian and her being foundational figures in Sliton’s business landscape, any brewing storm would undoubtedly begin with their enterprises.
