Alan smiled and asked, “So, Alis is your fiancée? When did you two get together?”
Shawn’s expression darkened, and he regarded Alan with disdain.
“When did you start caring about such things?” Shawn snapped. “We’re together for business purposes, nothing more.”
With that, Shawn turned and left, heading towards the Lounge.
Kaitlin couldn’t help but burst into laughter and began gossiping with Alan.
“Alan, do you think Shawn has feelings for Alis or not?” Kaitlin asked, her curiosity piqued.
“How would I know?” Alan replied, shrugging his shoulders.
Kaitlin tutted and said, “It’s said that men understand men best. You’ve known Shawn for a long time, can’t you sense it?”
Alan shook his head and said, “I’m not sure. But I doubt Shawn would concede so easily. He wouldn’t agree to the marriage just to stabilize his career.”
Kaitlin’s eyes brightened, and she excitedly patted Alan on the shoulder. “I knew it! Alan, Shawn must have feelings for Alis but is reluctant to confess. What a scheming man!”
Alan shook his head with a resigned smile. “Kaitlin, we shouldn’t interfere in their romantic affairs. How they handle their relationship is up to them. Just focus on your matters.”
As Alan spoke, he gently tapped Kaitlin on the head with a look of affection.
Kaitlin pouted playfully. “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
In the lounge, Alis rested on the sofa, but Shawn’s voice and demeanor kept replaying in her mind, causing her to frown.
When Shawn pushed open the door, he saw her lost in thought and instinctively quieted his steps.
Sensing a presence nearby, Alis opened her eyes. She was momentarily stunned to see Shawn standing at the door.
Shawn pressed his lips together, thinking that Alis seemed more *confused since her marriage proposal.
Wasn’t she articulate when negotiating business deals? Shawn frowned, feeling a twinge of irritation.
“Kaitlin mentioned you were a bit drunk and asked me to bring you home.”
Understanding immediately, Alis nodded.
This was a chance orchestrated by her best friend, and she needed to seize it.
“No, thank you. I can manage on my own.”
Alis attempted to stand using the sofa for support, but her high heels slipped, causing her to collapse back onto the cushion.
Shawn, growing impatient, stepped closer and extended his hand. “Given your condition, you shouldn’t try to go alone. I’ll drive you home.”
