Chapter 640: Chapter 640 Teddy is Gone Chapter 640: Chapter 640 Teddy is Gone The old man went to Gavin Curme’s psychological consultation room. After completing the psychological evaluation, he came out looking very distressed.
He didn’t care whether he had a mental illness himself but felt heartache for his daughter.
Because of his own reasons, he had caused his daughter’s lifelong tragedy.
He felt increasingly guilty towards Clara Smith.
Daniel originally wanted the old man to see a psychologist, understand the problem, and accept psychological intervention. This would be good for the old man and for his mother. Unexpectedly, the old man stubbornly stuck to his ways.
The entire night the old man remained silent, worrying Daniel so much that he had to call Abigail.
Abigail listened and remained silent for a while. “Don’t worry. Just let Grandpa be alone for a while.”
She had overheard the conversation between Clara Smith and her grandfather. She knew her mother’s situation had weighed on her grandfather for years. Unless they figured it out themselves, talking more would be useless.
Daniel listened, looked at the stubborn old man, and quietly left.
The next day, Clara Smith woke up at the time Abigail had estimated.
“Mama, do you feel any discomfort?” Daniel rushed forward anxiously when he saw his mother open her eyes.
Clara Smith’s fingers moved slightly, and she felt an unbearable pain in her chest. She looked at her son in confusion and asked, “What… happened to me?”
“You suddenly fainted yesterday, and the doctor had to perform emergency surgery. Fortunately, everything went smoothly.” Daniel held his mother’s hand. He was truly worried that she wouldn’t make it.
“I had surgery?” Clara Smith was obviously surprised that the surgery she had been hesitating about was over–and successfully.
“I’m sorry, Mother. I couldn’t watch you have an accident.” Daniel’s eyes were filled with guilt, but he didn’t regret his decision at all.
Clara Smith closed her eyes slightly. “I know…”
Her previous actions had been a very selfish decision.
At this point, she subconsciously looked around the ward and found that except for the doctor, no one else was there.
Neither her father nor Abigail was present.
Her still pale face, just after the surgery, unintentionally showed a trace of loneliness.
Daniel, who had been paying attention to his mother, immediately caught her emotions and asked tentatively, “Grandpa and Sister are outside. Do you want to see them?”
Clara Smith paused and then closed her eyes.
Seeing this, Daniel adjusted his mother’s quilt. “You just had surgery. Your body is very weak. You need to rest well.”
Clara Smith did not respond. Daniel stayed for a while and then quietly left the ward, shaking his head at Abigail and the old man.
This result did not surprise Abigail. She glanced at her grandfather’s lonely expression and softly comforted him, “Don’t worry. After these few days, when her condition stabilizes, I’ll talk to her.”
The old man nodded, forcing a smile. “You should go back and take care of Teddy. I know what needs to be done.”
Abigail wanted to say something, but Brandon Piers squeezed her hand. “Let Grandpa handle it himself.”
“Grandpa…”
“Brandon is right. Go quickly. Don’t come over for the next few days. It’s more than an hour from the farm. Isn’t it tiring for you? Your health is important too.” The old man hurried her. He noticed that his tone was not good, recalled the psychologist’s suggestion, and softened his tone considerably.
Abigail raised her eyebrows in surprise. It was rare to hear a good word from Grandpa. It seemed the old man had reflected properly last night.
Daniel was also worried about Abigail’s health, so he didn’t stay long.
Over the next week, Clara Smith’s health gradually recovered and was much better than expected.
The old man came every day but never went inside.
By the eighth day, instead of a reconciliation between father and daughter, it was Teddy’s first birthday.
Brandon Piers booked a restaurant a day in advance, at a hotel arranged by Daniel.
After breakfast, Brandon Piers and Abigail took the family into the city.
Aunt Claudia and Juliet Rosa stayed behind to tidy up the house. Abigail and Brandon Piers took Teddy to the hospital.
The old man stood outside the ward. Abigail glanced at the open ward door. “Grandpa, it’s Teddy’s birthday soon. Come back to the hotel with us. Anyway, she won’t see you.”
Church Smith was surprised. “Teddy’s birthday today? Oh my, why didn’t you tell me earlier!”
“What’s the use of telling you early?” Abigail laughed, then paused. “Grandpa, we plan to return to our country.”
They had stayed in Durin for too long. It was time to go back home.
Church Smith was taken aback. “When are you leaving?”
“Tomorrow. Come back with us,” Abigail stood deliberately at the ward door without controlling her volume. She then placed Teddy on the ground.
Brandon Piers glanced at his son and casually threw a toy dog to the side for the little guy to play with.
The old man was still immersed in the thought of Abigail returning to their home country and did not notice Teddy’s movements. “Is it so urgent?”
Abigail nodded, noticing out of the corner of her eye that her son was chasing the toy dog into Clara Smith’s room.
On the hospital bed, Clara Smith vaguely heard Abigail and her father’s conversation. Lying on the bed, her body stiffened. She subconsciously clenched the bedsheet. Already thin, her hands tightened to the point where the bones in her knuckles could almost be seen.
Just as Clara Smith felt like she couldn’t control her emotions and ached in her chest, a small figure entered her sight. Clara Smith was stunned. She watched the baby crawl towards her bed. The chubby face, set with a pair of big bright eyes, was seventy to eighty percent similar to Abigail’s.
Clara Smith guessed who he was almost instantly.
Her tightly clenched hands released, watching the well-fed little guy cautiously. He looked like a little dumpling, making people want to smile at first glance.
Clara Smith didn’t dare to move, fearing that any movement would scare the little guy. Meanwhile, Teddy finally caught the toy dog, happily sitting down, shaking the toy. He noticed someone watching him and looked up at Clara Smith with wide, grape-like eyes. He tilted his head as if in thought, then suddenly called out sweetly, “Nana…”
Clara Smith, lying in bed, looked at the little dumpling on the ground in disbelief. Her hand trembled slightly, but she suppressed her voice. “What… did you call me?”
Teddy looked puzzled at the person in the bed who looked like Aunt Claudia and then continued playing with his toy. Adults were just too strange.
Seeing the child ignoring her, Clara Smith’s eyes became even more eager. “Is it Teddy? Call me Grandma. No, call me Nana again…”
Unfortunately, by this time, the toy dog in the little guy’s hand fell to the ground and ran off. Teddy scrambled to crawl after it, directly under Clara Smith’s bed.
Clara Smith tried to get up, afraid the little guy might get hurt, only to hear Abigail exclaim from outside, “Grandpa, where’s Teddy?”
“Wasn’t he just here?” The old man instinctively searched for Teddy.
“He was right with you,” Brandon Piers responded.
Church Smith, puzzled, thought Teddy was with him? Where did he go?!
“Find him quickly!” Abigail ordered. Everyone started to look for the little boy.
Clara Smith froze, reluctantly looking at the little guy under her bed…
