The quiet afternoon found Sarah absorbed in a parenting book when her phone’s gentle buzz drew her attention.
Given her careful selection of contacts during pregnancy, she knew the message would be from someone close.
A warm smile spread across her face as she read Ariana’s message, telling her that she was on her way to visit her.
Energized by the prospect of company, Sarah made her way to Aziel’s study, enlisting his help to prepare a proper meal.
Despite her eagerness to assist in the kitchen, Aziel remained steadfast in his protective stance, refusing to let her handle even the simplest tasks like washing vegetables. Sarah could only return to the sofa to rest.
Before Long, her phone buzzed again.
This time, it was a voice message from Sonia. “Are you home? I am nearby for an interview and could drop by after.”
Sarah’s reply was swift and cheerful. “I’m home! Ariana’s coming, too. I told Aziel to cook up a feast. Come join us soon!”
A short while later, Ariana and Sonia arrived at Sarah’s door almost simultaneously, their laughter echoing as Sarah welcomed them inside.
The dining table was a sight to behold, laden with Aziel’s culinary creations. It was a rare moment for the three women to gather like this, unburdened by schedules, crises, or worries.
Since Sarah couldn’t partake in alcohol, she also poured low-alcohol fruit wine. for Ariana and Sonia. But after a single sip, Sonia wrinkled her nose and set the glass down. She said, “Don’t you have anything stronger?”
Aziel,- overhearing their conversation from the kitchen, said, “I’ve got red wine. Want some?”
Sonia perked up. “Now you’re talking.”
Aziel retrieved two bottles from the cabinet, pouring Sonia a generous glass.
Sonia wasted no time, taking a hearty sip before rejoining the lively discussion between Ariana and Sarah.
When Ariana shared updates about Zayden and Sadie’s situation, her friends responded with heartfelt concern, raising their glasses to toast her future happiness with Holden and their children.
Ariana clinked glasses with them. “If I have to weather any more such changes, I might not be able to bear it anymore,” she said with a sigh.
The lively atmosphere shifted when Sonia suddenly withdrew into silence while drinking.
Her friends’ smiles faded as they exchanged worried glances, recognizing the unusual behavior.
“Sonia, what’s wrong?” Ariana asked, gently removing the wine glass from Sonia’s grasp. “Talk to us. Is something bothering you?”
Sarah nodded, Leaning forward. “Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out together.”
Sonia remained silent. Finally, Ariana broke the silence, her voice edged with urgency. “Is it about Maxwell?”
At the mention of Maxwell, tears welled up in Sonia’s eyes, but she shook her head. “It’s not about him,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
The table fell quiet, the air heavy.
Just when Ariana was about to press further, Sonia took a deep breath and raised her gaze. “I’ve made a decision,” she said. “I’m going abroad for a while-to further my studies.”
