Startled, her gaze darted down, following the arm back to its source. There, lying beside her, was Matthew. She quietly studied Matthew’s features; it had been so long since she’d been this close to him, close enough to take in every quiet detail.
Just then, Matthew’s eyelids fluttered open. His gaze met hers, and they shared smiles, chatting and laughing as usual.
Stella’s gaze lingered on Matthew before she drew in a breath and spoke softly. “Matthew, I’m pregnant.”
Matthew smiled and said, “I already know. The whole family does.”
As he spoke, his hand moved carefully, resting over Stella’s stomach Like protecting something precious.
The gesture was tender, but Stella couldn’t resist teasing him. “It’s barely two months—there’s nothing to feel yet.”
Matthew didn’t smile this time. His expression turned serious, his gaze holding hers with quiet intensity. “I’m sorry, Stella. I’ve put you through so much.”
Stella shook her head and said, “Don’t say that. If you really mean that, say the three words instead.”
Matthew hesitated for a moment, and then realization lit his eyes. Looking into her eyes, he leaned in just slightly, his voice low but clear. “I love you.”
The tenderness in his tone broke through Stella’s walls. Overcome with emotion, she leaned in and gently kissed Matthew’s Lips.
Matthew’s awakening and Stella’s pregnancy were two joyous events that filled the entire Clark family with happiness.
Waldo, in particular, was overjoyed, his smile barely contained. Gathering everyone together, he exclaimed excitedly, “Since Stella’s pregnancy isn’t showing yet, let’s seize the opportunity and plan the wedding now.”
The suggestion was met with unanimous approval, as everyone nodded in agreement.
Thus, both families quickly sprang into action, busying themselves with preparations for the upcoming wedding.
Meanwhile, since Matthew was still recovering and Stella was pregnant, the two of them became the most relaxed amidst the flurry of activity.
One day, Dexter and Doreen arrived at the Clark family residence.
Dexter approached Stella with a respectful demeanor and said, “Mrs. Clark, I’ve come to tender my resignation. I was originally sent by Sanford to assist you, and now that he has returned to Lyllmann, it’s time for me to go back.”
Stella was momentarily taken aback, but she quickly recovered, offering Dexter a warm smile. “Dexter, I truly appreciate all your help during this time. If you ever wish to return to Seamarsh, you’re always welcome to join our company.”
Dexter nodded in acknowledgment. As he turned to leave, he hesitated, seemingly wanting to update Stella about Sanford’s situation. However, Stella gently interrupted, her voice calm and kind. “Take good care of him.”
Dexter paused briefly, and then silently turned and walked away.
After watching Dexter leave, Doreen approached Stella with concern etched on her face. “Stella, how have you been feeling during your pregnancy?”
She handed Stella a resignation letter, guilt clear in her expression. “I found out from Fernando that the five million was given to me by Lindsay. Because of that money, I helped her and betrayed you, and I can’t forgive myself for it. I’ve already arranged everything at the Seamarsh studio. You won’t need to oversee it for now. I’m too ashamed to stay and work.”
Stella accepted Doreen’s resignation letter silently.
She had been aware of ODoreen’s’ struggles-her father imprisoned, leaving Doreen and her mother to rely on each other, with her mother working odd jobs just to make ends meet.
